Idris Elba, a well-known international star, has encouraged Ghanaians to embrace the LGBTQ+ community and to avoid using abuse and intolerance against members of the community, instead welcoming them into our hearts.
Accepting the rights of this oppressed population, according to Elba, will make Ghana a much greater and stronger country!
Elba’s name was added to a group of 67 British actors with Ghanaian origins who signed a letter expressing support for Ghana’s LGBT community.
The group expressed concern about how gay people are handled in Ghana, especially the recent closing of the LGBT+ office in Accra.
Apart from Idris Elba, supermodel Naomi Campbell and British Vogue editor Edward Enninful were among the 67 British celebrities with Ghanaian origins who campaigned for the country’s LGBTQ+ rights to be legalized.

As prominent and powerful advocates for this great country, we are beseeching His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and political/cultural leaders to create a pathway for allyship, protection and support. We petition for inclusivity which will make the nation even greater and even stronger,he said
