A male teacher or housemaster wearing a blue top and blue jeans was captured on video dishing out heavy dirty slaps to three male students who were on their knees.
It is unclear if this is an approved means of correction in the Free SHS program, but if it is, it should be included in the school prospectus.
The teacher can be heard directing the students to move closer for their share of the slaps. This is a clear violation of human rights and goes against the GES code on discipline. It appears that the teacher is enjoying abusing the students.
This is not an isolated incident, and it raises concerns about the safety and well-being of students in our schools.
It is unacceptable for any teacher or housemaster to physically abuse students under any circumstances.
The GES must take immediate action to investigate and address this issue. Students have the right to a safe and secure learning environment, and it is the responsibility of the GES to ensure that this is upheld.
The government and other stakeholders must also take steps to address the root causes of such behavior and provide support to teachers to promote positive discipline practices. It is time for us to prioritize the protection of our children.
