Farouk Mohammed and Jamiu Kasali, two fugitive suspects who assassinated Pastor Babatunde Dada of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG on 6th Avenue, Festac Town, have been captured.
The attackers stabbed the 46-year-old pastor to death on December 2, 2021, and escaped with his money bag.
The suspects contacted the unsuspecting pastor claiming to be strangers in Lagos with nowhere to stay.
The dead hid them in a chamber in the chapel where he lived, only to be assaulted at 12 noon the next day and left to die in a pool of his own blood.
In an altar call, the suspects reportedly came out to “surrender their life to Jesus” the Sunday before the event.
“The pastor came to church in the morning, gave us money for meals, and left,” Kasali stated in an interview with Vanguard. He later returned with a money bag.
A few hours earlier, Farouk had received a call from his mother, encouraging him to return home immediately. We were discussing how he would pay for his mother’s hospital visit when the Pastor entered with a money bag.
Our plank-and-broken-bottle attack followed him upstairs. He fell. We departed with the bag.
Mohammed, 15, says he lied to his parents about going to Lagos for a show.
“I told my mum I would earn N200K from the show. We are new musicians. We’ve been around for three years. When things didn’t go as planned, we decided to invest in our music business.
Our aim in Lagos was to find a venue. “But our plans altered when we spotted Pastor with the money bag,” he continued.
