Oil company manager sent to prison for 15 years for using Ghc139,118 of company money to stack bet

Yussif Abubakar, a former employee of Star Oil Company’s Hohoe office, was jailed for stealing GH139,118 from his employer.

His mother, who seemed to be broken by the situation, required physical assistance as she wailed her way out of the courtroom.

About two years earlier, Abubakar was charged with theft. He pled not guilty, but the court found him guilty following a complete hearing.

Mr Yaw Opoku Acheampong, the trial judge, stated in a 30-minute sentencing that he would have sentenced him to 20 years in jail but the culprit had shown regret for his behavior in the trial.

Abubakar was also forced to repay the money to the firm, despite the fact that his counsel was not present in court when the verdict was handed down.

He is reported to have used the funds for sports betting, but he did not gain either of the wagers, making it impossible for him to recoup the funds he took from the company’s treasury.
