Ghana’s National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has disclosed that during this period of coronavirus, Muslims are permitted to take alcohol.
The Chief Imam speaking through his spokesperson Sheikh Aremeyaw about alcohol which is said to reduce the effect of coronavirus said;
“context of the Mosque ban is acceptable in Islam as even alcohol, which is “haram” in Islam may be taken under some circumstances”.
“Under the circumstance, the call by the Chief Imam for Muslims to adhere to the protocols falls under the feature of contextualization. The context within which we find ourselves dictate what we have to do.”
“There are several texts of the Holy Qur’an that suggest and give an indication of how modest and flexible the sharia is.”
This comes during Chief Imam’s statement asking all Muslims in the country to adhere to the directive issued by the President of Ghana after he placed a ban on social and formal gatherings to reduce the spread of the virus.
