Alice Effiong, a Nigerian lady who had her front teeth kicked out by her abusive husband, has pled with the police and a human rights organization interested in the case to free her now imprisoned husband.
Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network got a distress call from a mandated reporter that Alice was reportedly beaten by her lawyer husband, Columbus Effiong, according to SaharaReporters.
Alice, who lost her front teeth as a result of the beating, told SaharaReporters that the doctor had advised her that she needed false teeth. She said her husband had been assaulting her for a long time, but the most recent attack was particularly vicious.
Following the investigation, ACVPN Coordinator Ebenezer Omejalile ensured that Columbus was arrested by the police, but instead of cooperating with the rights organization and the police to guarantee that her husband was taken to justice, Alice recanted her assertion, claiming that her husband was innocent and that she wanted him released right away.
Meanwhile, prior to his arrest, Columbus was overheard moaning to their landlord about the frustrations he had encountered at the hands of his wife.
He said his wife pushed him into it, alleging many instances in which she supposedly failed to meet her obligations.
He was overheard threatening to hit his wife again if she pursued disciplinary action against him.
Alice previously told SaharaReporters that she did not want to divorce her husband but wished he could be persuaded to avoid harassing her.
