Afia Schwarzenegger, an outspoken TV personality, has threatened to “beat up” President Nana Akufo-Addo if he gives in to pressure to pay “greedy” customers of MenzGold, a defunct gold dealership business.
The company’s operating license was originally intended for gold trading and export, but it quickly expanded to include investments. This activity was deemed illegal, and the Bank of Ghana issued a series of notices to clients advising them not to invest with the company.
The Ghana Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shut down the company in September 2018, resulting in the freezing of client assets.
In response to demands that the government return their funds, Afia Schwar said that she would not stand by while the President pays clients with taxpayers’ hard-earned money.
“Through the Bank of Ghana, the government issued a warning to Ghanaians not to do business with Nana Mensah Appiah. Customers of MenzGod came out and begged the government to stay quiet so they could work,” she said on Kingdom FM.
She threatened, “If the President takes our money to pay these greedy people, we will trap him and beat him up.”
“If the President wants to bribe these selfish people with our hard-earned money, it would be a disaster. The MenzGold problem is delicate, and you would be sorry if you question the government on it.”
