“I refused to sign for Manchester City because of Blackstars” – Asamoah Gyan shockingly reveals

According to Asamoah Gyan, his devotion to the Black Stars prevented him from signing with a major English team (Manchester City)

The former captain of the Blackstars says that he turned down an offer to play for Manchester City in the English Premier League in 2008 because he was committed to playing for the senior national team.

The main reason he refused to sign with Manchester City, according to Baby Jet, was because when the English team was set to sign him in 2008, Ghana was hosting the AFCON, therefore he chose to ignore them.

If he had accepted the offer, he would have had to forfeit the games and go to England, a difficult decision he couldn’t make.

Asamoah Gyan says that because he didn’t want to go, Manchester City signed Emmanuel Adebayo instead.

I always say I’m very patriotic. Sheik Mansour had just purchased Manchester City at the time, and they wanted to sign me, but I was committed to the national team. I chose the national team over everything. That’s why some things hurt me.

“People didn’t understand.” But I’m sure after this interview they’ll understand why things panned out that way”
