Heavily Pregnant Ghanaian Nurse in the U.K dies of COVID 19 leaving Behind her Newborn

A Ghanaian Nurse identified as Mary Agyapong who works at Luton and Dunstable Hospital in Bedfordshire in the U.K has died shortly after contracting the Deadly coronavirus. She was one of many health personnel chosen as the frontline workers despite her being pregnant.

She contracted the virus during one of her check ups on some patience. Doctors managed to save her baby by caesarean section, but she died a few days after her daughter was born.

In a statement, the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We were extremely saddened to lose Mary. She worked here for five years and was a highly valued and loved member of our team, a fantastic nurse, and a great example of what we stand for in this Trust.”

“We have carried out a full internal review into the circumstances surrounding her death and we are confident that she received the best possible care and support from the Trust.

“We have sent our deepest condolences to Mr. Boateng, and are currently working through a number of issues he has raised.”

The husband of the late nurse, Ernest Boateng expressed his grieve upon his wife’s death and also accused the hospital of being the cause of his wife’s death during an interview with BBC. according to Ernest, The hospital should have given his wife a break during the late period of her pregnancy.
