Nelli Tembe, the fiancée of famous South African hip hop artist AKA, has died after allegedly jumping from a hotel’s tenth floor in the early hours of Sunday, April 11.
The police have confirmed that they are investigating the 22-year-old woman’s murder, which occurred at the five-star Pepperclub Hotel in central Cape Town.
The specifics of the incident are still unknown, but Western Cape SA Police spokesman Captain Fredierick van Wyk said that crime-scene investigators were searching for evidence at the hotel.
“Cape Town Central police are investigating an inquest case after an incident at a hotel this morning at about 7.45 am on the corners of Loop and Bloem streets, Cape Town CBD, where the body of a 22-year-old woman was found deceased,” he said in a statement.
Phumza Nohashe, AKA’s publicist, said that the Forbes and Tembe families will issue a statement shortly. According to a source close to the singer, he is “inconsolable.”
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing screaming and a “loud doof” sound, as well as a man weeping and calling police.
“Paramedics on the scene have said a female had allegedly jumped from the 10th floor of that building. When paramedics arrived on the scene, she had sustained polytraumatic injuries,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said.
“She was in a critical condition and they started a full life-support resuscitation. Unfortunately, her injuries were too severe and she was declared dead,” he added.
Efi Ella, general manager of Pepperclub Hotel, has announced that a young woman fell from one of the hotel’s upper floors at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday.
The pair just got engaged two months ago.
AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Jerryd Forbes, announced their engagement on Instagram and Twitter, calling Nelli the “love of his life.”
